The infamous Marble Boat, aka. the Boat of Purity and Ease, in the Summer Palace. The original was erected in 1755, destroyed by Anglo-French forces in 1860, and restored with an added second floor by Empress Cixi in 1893. She used the funds earmarked for the Imperial Navy to restore the Summer Palace/Marble Boat. The next year, Japanese forces crushed the Chinese in the First Sino-Japanese War, partly because the Japanese had a Navy and the Chinese had, well, a Marble Boat. But hey, at least the Summer Palace looks nice.
